Kalli Morris- Editor

Kalli Morris is a senior and long time resident of Mascoutah. She is the Editor and creative mind behind the Spirit newspaper. After graduation her plans include attending SIUE and majoring in Mass Communications with a minor in Peace and International studies. She is involved in Toastmasters International, Purple Crush, a FMP mentor, and President of the newly created Debate club at Mascoutah High.Her hobbies outside writing are traveling, reading and staying on top of current affairs.

Mackenzie Schuessler is a senior at Mascoutah High School. This is her first year as an editor for the Spirit Newspaper. In her free time she enjoys photography, art, and soccer. Mackenzie loves to stay up to date with current events and write about them. She is an avid supporter of social rights and justice. She plans to attend Mizzou and major in journalism and foreign studies. She wishes to travel the world and make a difference for the better.

Mrs. Edwards has been teaching high school English for nine years, and this year marks her 5th year at Mascoutah High School.She took over The Spirit after the former sponsor, Mrs. Mueth retired in 2011.The goal of Mrs. Edwards, and the newspaper as a whole,is to inform students, staff, families, and the community about the happenings at MHS.Mrs. Edwards enjoys spending time with her husband, Cliff, and their son, Eli.In her free time she enjoys reading, running, traveling, & shopping

Jayde Eubanks

Jayde Eubanks

Jayde Eubanks was born on October 4, 1997 in Wharton, Texas. She is a junior at Mascoutah High School. English has always been her best subject, which is why she decided to join the school newspaper. Acting is her first love. She hopes to obtain a degree in drama studies and apply it into a successful career. Jayde would like to try her hand in writing screenplays and directing. Jayde plans to graduate early her senior year and attend SWIC, later transferring to a performing arts college.

Bo Schmidt

Bo Schmidt

Bo Schmidt is a senior attending Mascoutah High School. He is the son of Shannon and Bob Schmidt and is the brother of two beautiful sisters, Taylor and Summer. Bo stays involved with school through track, football, FMP, tribe talk, and show choir. He really enjoys traveling and doing outdoor activities like camping and backpacking. Also, Bo will be participating in his first spring musical so be sure to catch him there. Hope you all enjoy his stories this semester.

Ali Linck

Ali Linck is a senior in high school and just joined the newspaper. She enjoys writing about sports, fashion, and anything pop culture. She plans to attend Mizzou and major in Sports Public Relations. She is involved in the managing the Football and Basketball programs in order to build experience for her desired career, in the NBA. In her spare time she enjoys boating, shopping and binge watching Netflix.

Amanda Surmeier is a 17 year old Senior here at Mascoutah High School. She enjoys baking, knitting, organizing, working, and planning and going on retreats. When writing stories, she prefers topics that she enjoys or is passionate about. Some of these topics include abortion, abuse, and most importantly, food. In fact, when Amanda was three years old, she won $25,000 from McDonald’s! Amanda is looking forward to her first semester as a journalism student.

Kiara Stewart

Kiara Stewart

Kiara is an avid soccer player and likes to play as much as she possibly can. Kiara plays on select and indoor soccer teams, as well as the high school’s girls team. When shes not playing, you can often catch her drawing, eating toasted ravioli, riding her longboard, or taking pictures, especially action shots of sports. She will forever be an “islander” and beach bum due to her early childhood in Japan. Catch her in action taking pictures and read her upcoming stories!

Sarah Peters is a senior at Mascoutah High School, she plans on continuing her education next year at Murray State University where still will be diving into Public Relations. Very outgoing and athletic, Sarah plays on the Softball team and current member of the Tribe Talk team. She loves being involved in school activities and events hence what lead her to join Journalism.She looks forward to bringing stories about pop culture and other topics she finds interesting to the students of Mascoutah!

Shelby Cusick

Shelby Cusick

Shelby is 18 and a senior at Mascoutah High School. She is often working at a mexican restaurant, Dos Gorditos. When she is not working, she enjoys hanging out with friends and checking items off of her bucket list.Recently she has been able to check off riding in a hot air balloon, very adventurous and daring she looks forward to checking more items to her list!After graduating, she plans on attending Murray State in Kentucky in hopes to obtain a degree in their mass communication/ journalism.

Victoria Fimple is a 16 year old sophomore at Mascoutah High School. One of her favorite hobbies is watching Television. The shows she watches religiously include Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, and Finding Carter. She has a strong social media presence with 1,348 followers on Twitter and counting. You will rarely find her without a pair of headphones in public. Her current playlist includes music from 5 Seconds of Summer, Ed Sheeran, All Time Low, Hozier, Paramore, and Sam Smith.

Maya Everts

Maya Everts is a 16-year old sophomore at Mascoutah High School. She has a passion for the arts, including poetry and photography. When she isn't eating cereal, she is probably sleeping. After high school, Maya hopes to major in Biochemistry and take part in research to find treatments and cures for diseases. She specializes in writing about alarming world events, controversial topics, and writing satire.

Cheyanne Wilson

Cheyanne Wilson

Cheyanne Wilson is a 16 year old sophomore at Mascoutah High School. She was born on Thanksgiving of 1998. Her favorite things to do are playing the piano and going to the movie theatre. She was adopted on December 24th , 2013 by Shannon and Heather Wilson. Cheyanne now has three new siblings and she has lived with the family since she was in second grade. She started writing when she was in elementary school and almost always had a book in her hand. Her love of writing lead her to this class.

Myka Murphy

Myka Murphy

Myka Murphy is a sophomore here at Mascoutah. Myka has many pastimes, one of which is playing the violin. She also enjoys cooking and experimenting with different recipes, as a creative release she loves to take pictures. She is planning to become a pediatric anesthesiologist after graduation. She plays soccer, runs track, and is a member on a swim team. Here at MHS she is a FMP coach in training, a tutor, a transition coach, and the secretary of the book club.

Charli Wilson

Charli is a sophomore at Mascoutah High she has a passion of playing piano. She has been playing since she was seven years old. She is inspired by her favorite composer, Myuu, a Youtube artist with a wide variety of musical compositions. Her favorite bands range from Depeche Mode, to Natasha Bedingfield, and Evanescence. She hopes to be voice actress when she is older because she finds the industry intriguing. In her free time she enjoys writing,she specializes in stories with unexpected twists.
