Post Season Volleyball

Bump! Set! Volley! Volleyball has had an amazing season this year, which all the players are proud of. They put their hearts out on the court and would give each and every game their all. Now the season is coming to an end, which is sad to see, but the volleyball players will always have each other like a family. To see what the volleyball players felt about the season and what they loved about it we have interviewed them to see their thoughts.

While four years in high schools sounds like forever when you’re a fledgling freshmen, it flies by faster than one could even imagine. The senior volleyball players reflect on their time spent playing both on and off the court. ‘These girls are family. Both on and off the court I could not imagine my life without them in it,” describes 5’2 fireball Ali Amici. Ali plays libero which by its Italian origin means “free” which describe Ali in more ways than her roaming position on the court. Ali will continue her volleyball career in college at Lakeland college on a scholarship, and although she looks forward to her future she will always treasure her time as an Indian. Ali is not the only senior who will continue playing in college, both Mikayla Webber and Liza Gober will be moving beyond high school. Mikyla will be playing at Kaskaskia college , "It’s sad to see that my senior year is over but I am so excited about my future! I found Kaskaskia was the perfect fit for me; my coach, Kim Rahar was taught by our high school coach, Todd Gober. So I will be able to go on and develop my skill in the same kind of environment." Mikayla, like her fellow players, looks forward to what awaits her beyond high school but they're working on just enjoying the 'here and now.' Liza Gober explains her journey at MHS, "Transferring in my junior year seemed scary but it makes me laugh looking about being nervous to be with these girls. Our friendship has really impacted me beyond just volleyball and we have been through a lot together. We have a great cohesion and energy when we are playing its so weird to think that this is the last time we will all get to play together.” Liza will be attending Kentucky Wesleyan College, a picturesque college nested right along the Kentucky River. She will be joining a sorority and transitioning into a bulldog. She details the campus, "The campus is beautiful I love the location!! It really checked all my boxes and although it's kind of scary to be away its so exciting at the same time!" While our last senior volleyball player has something else in store for spending her time at college, Jasmine Baker is going to Southern Illinois of Edwardsville where she will go into computer security. And although not continuing on with volleyball Jasmine says, "I really want to focus on school work and learning about my major. It's bittersweet that volleyball is ending but I'm thankful for the memories and the time I got to spend with my team!" While all of these girls have a bright future ahead of them they kept their sights focused in on continuing their winning record of 10-0 into the postseason.

Postseason consists of regionals, sectionals, super-sectionals, and state. This year the varsity girls crushed Murphysboro in their first regional game at Waterloo, but sadly, they couldn't carry the momentum to the next game and they lost against Columbia. Maddie Nekola, a junior is proud of the team this season. “We took each game at a time and it showed that our hard work paid off”. With the end of the season the seniors reminisce on the good times volleyball has had. Junior Megan Lindsay says, “It’s weird that next year we will be the seniors and we won’t be playing with these girls anymore.” Some of the girls have played together since elementary school at Holy Childhood. As we all look to the next chapter we wish the seniors the best of luck on their future endeavors, and can’t wait to see what the girls have in store for next year!
