'Crazy in Love' 2015 Prom

As spring rolls around flowers are not the only thing blooming at MHS, the anticipation of prom is in full swing. The upperclassmen are putting the finalized touches to ensure their prom goes off without a hitch. With a change of location, and the promise of an excellent theme, the students have a lot to look forward to. ‘Crazy in Love’ has the students questioning if our educators in charge of prom were inspired by Beyonce's hit single or the fact that the students seem to be infatuated with the idea of love, especially when prom rolls around.

With all dances comes the new and crazed idea of promposals where every girl hopes her man has enough creativity, and help from her friends, to have a picture perfect moment she can capture and put on her Twitter and Instagram. While some boys feel it is irrelevant, as Timmy Parks said in a Tribe Talk interview, "they can be compared to asking a bride to her own wedding." While not all males feel quite so cynical, this year there has been some show stopping ideas. Luke Mathews 'promposed' to Kathryn Rensing in New York during the senior chorus trip; after the broadway play he dropped to his knee and asked with festively decorated cupcakes. Kathryn explains, "I had no idea, it was so exciting though!" Other noteworthy performances go to Alex Bastian, who asked Kaylie Weber with a box of Buffalo Wild Wings, with the title, "Not sure how to ask to prom..so I'd figure I'd just wing it." Kaylie says, "He knows the way to my heart, I'm not sure if I was more excited to be asked to prom or for the wings!" Kaylee explains, "It seems like it's a part of the dance process now, get your dress, find a hairstyle, and have a good promposal."

After all the promposals are all said and done, and dates are set it is time for the actual event...prom night. This luxurious and Grand Regency Conference Center is the location for the special evening, and the change of location has the students thrilled! In previous years students had to move tables back in order to create a dance floor, and were not permitted to turn the lights out all of which left a distasteful memory in students mind. Mrs. Holtgrewe eases all students concerns in hopes that those particular events will not follow to the new location. “It’s very exciting to have a change of location, we decided to move because we were outgrowing our old location.” And as for the food, while some students enjoyed the crisp chicken fingers this year the meal will be set to the eloquent theme of prom, with a fancy yet delicious grilled chicken dinner. Another positive to the new venue, it is photoready according to our Prom committee members, "There is a large staircase and fountains that would be great pictures, and even if you don't like those Lifetouch will be set up to capture the moment." Katy Hansen says. With all the new features the Regency promises the students will be able to enjoy what for some will their last school dance!

Almost a week away now, the students have nothing to do but wait with excitement and prepare for a great evening. Now a not so positive change to the prom season this year is the removal of after prom. An event that was hosted by parents to offer a safe alternative of students to go to after prom ends, an evening filled with fun activities and prizes. But sadly with a lack of fundraising this event will not be happening. So students need to organize a fun and safe alternative. Mrs. Holtgrewe commented, “It’s a shame it isn’t happening so I hope students are able to find safe and fun alternative!” This aside prom will bring a larger than life event!
