Model UN Brings Home Four Awards

Recently, Mascoutah’s Model UN team competed at Mckendree University bringing home four different awards. This three day event allowed students in the Model UN club to fully immerse themselves into real life current affairs.

Members from each team were split up and assigned a country. After learning some background information about that specific country, delegates were given a problem for which they would then need to create resolutions. Resolutions for representatives include describing the problem at hand and finding a solution. In order to achieve maximum points, delegates need to write resolutions thoroughly and realistically.

Senior Patrick Jolly was assigned the country of Chile. His problem was to inform humanitarian rights of the incarcerated. “I talked about spreading education about the rights of the incarcerated and understanding the rights in prison in my resolution,” Jolly enthusiastically recollects.

Although Patrick did not do as well as he had hoped, four other members from the Mascoutah Model UN received some type of award. One of the largest awards for our delegates was an Honorable Mention given to senior Nick Paterline. Other awards concerning resolutions and more specific items were given to Parker Zurbrugg, Alex Schiaffino, and Rebecca Postula.

Led by Mrs. Stacy and Frau Linck, our Model UN team competed against 16 different schools, and they did a great job. If you are interested in current international affairs and love learning about other countries be sure to check out this club next school year.
