German Class Commemorates the Destruction of the Berlin Wall

“Tear Down this Wall!” Or decorate the walls as the kids in Mascoutah’s German class have. They have taken on a project to learn about the Berlin Wall. To show their activities in the class they have decorated the walls with beautiful decorations. They have taken a whole week to learn about the fall of the Berlin Wall and each day they have learned something new about it. Some students in German class even visited the Berlin Wall in person over the summer. Kami von der Linden, one of the students who went to visit this site, was interviewed and asked, what excited her most about this learning experience, she replied, “I am excited most about learning the key people in the Berlin Wall.” The key people in the Berlin Wall were a lot of people, but they narrowed it down by reading some personal stories handpicked by Mrs. Link. Students have really enjoyed this project, especially Genna Hillbing, who was asked, what interested her about the Berlin Wall, she said, “One thing that interests me is what led up to the fall of the Berlin Wall instead of just always seeing what happens after the fall.” After this whole week of learning we asked Mrs. Link if this was going to lead up to anything big, she answered, “Well yes, this project is actually to celebrate the 25th Anniversary since the fall of the Berlin Wall. We will decorate lockers and by the end of the week we will have a big party to celebrate.” The German students were very excited for this party and couldn’t wait to eat the delicious food, but they were most ecstatic about learning the history of the Berlin Wall and expanding their knowledge on this big part of history. Before it’s too late Mascoutah ask the students, in German class, like Kami von der Linden or Genna Hillbing, about the Berlin Wall and learn a thing or two about it, because it will never hurt to learn something new.
