Innovation of Winter Sports

Kalli Morris

As temperatures cool down and the student body prepares for the transition from the outside arena into the gym we look forward to bringing new innovative changes. A lot of new events are in store for the winter sports season aside from the athletes preparing for a great season, with themed nights and game of the week we got the scoop on what’s to come!

A new implication called 'Game of the Week' will be a weekly event where MHS students will gain free admission to certain events. MHS's Athletic Director Mr. Battas explains, "We want to encourage everyone to come to all events, so by offering free admission we will be able to get more students to come out and support their fellow classmates. I am thrilled for these to begin.” These events will encompass home events for sports ranging from Girls Basketball, to Wrestling. Along with Game of the week a student has stepped up to bring fun new themes to these entertaining games.

Another new feature to look forward to is the themes that will be associated with the different games. Maree' Slack, a junior, has seen a lot of other schools embrace this concept and she like the Indians to also welcome it. "Mascoutah is so supportive and spirited of all the games, and I thought this would be a great opportunity for students to get involved and hopefully get a bigger crowd!" Maree explains. Seeing how successful the whiteout game was during football season she will look to branch out from that with all sorts of themes, such as a neon, and even an ugly sweater night, are only a few of her many clever ideas! Maree will create a twitter page to inform students which nights are the designated themes and we here at the spirit will also keep you up to date with that through the website, our twitter and our Facebook so stay tuned! With all these new changes we can’t wait to see what else the season holds for all of our athletes, see you in the stands Indians!
