“It’s Alive!” The Frankenstein play put on by the talented students here at MHS was a hit! “There were a few minor things like some equipment catching on fire and some improper sound timings, but overall the audience was really pleased with the performance,” states Ian Wininger, who played Dr. Frankenstein, ”I think the table crashing scene and the creation of the monster was astounding. I wouldn’t want to change a thing. My favorite part by far was being thrown through the table, it really shocked the audience and I got quite a rush of adrenaline afterwards.” The audience was absolutely enthralled with the play. Brandon Strong, who was an usher says, “The play was very good. We had a few mistakes which is to be expected, nothing is perfect. Friday had a lot of people there and while Saturday didn’t have quite as many, the turnout was still remarkable. My favorite part was when the light blew up in the lab and everybody jumped. And my favorite character was the creature because he just looked so cool, he’s this big guy that looked exactly as the monster should look.” In the words of Justine Figueroa, the wife of Frankenstein, “I think the play was super successful! It was amazing coming out to the commons area and seeing how people enjoyed the play.” There was a lot of work put into the plays including the struggle to simply buy the rights to their script. Justine said, “ My favorite part was the practices. Even though sometimes things got tough, there were moments where we had to stop so the crew could adjust the lighting and we would improve a scene while we waited. Tristin Sanchez (Fritz) and Ian were such goof balls during practice but they really perfected their characters; it was so great being able to act with them!” Justine continues on excitedly, “I’ve never had a problem performing in front of people. No matter where I am, the stage is home to me, so it’s where I’m the most comfortable. Personally, I love performing and I guess that’s why it was so exhilarating to see how great of a turn out we had. There are only two things I wish people would know, one, that the creature’s name isn’t Frankenstein; Frankenstein is the creature and two, that there are so many different ways to tell that story and bringing it to life is one of the most amazing things ever. It was so bitter sweet when it was all over. Overall, the fall play will be one of the two highlights of my high school experience.” Even though the wonderful Frankenstein has come to an end, we all look forward to the musical that always arrives with the spring season.
