2015 Winter Sports
All of our winter sports are finally kicked into full gear and you might be wondering how they are all doing this season. We have boys and girls basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, poms, winter guard and scholar bowl all going on at once so it’s reasonable if you aren't able to keep up with them all. Well, as we near the middle of the season it's good to catch up with each sport and see how they are doing and what's in store to come.
Our cheerleaders are having an awesome season. They are putting in loads of work to make sure they are doing the best that they can whether its cheering on the sidelines or on the state floor. They are extremely happy with their success as first places keep falling into their hands. They are continuing to help out the community and be leaders around the school while cheering on our teams. We are hosting a regional this weekend where if we place top five we will qualify for state and getting a chance to show the bigger schools what Mascoutah can do! Try your best to make it this Saturday!
The boys basketball team is currently battling their way through a very tough schedule. Despite their difficult schedule they only have two conference losses. Over Christmas break they finished in sixth place in the Breese Mater Dei Tournament and senior Tim Parks was named part of the All-Tournament team and Chris Simmons was recently named as part of the all tournament team in the Nashville tournament.
Our girls basketball team continues to play and work hard throug their challenging season. Because of the lacking of seniors on this team, Coach Mo called this a “two year journey” because many of his juniors will be back next year strong as can be.
This year Mascoutah’s poms squad has started off very strong in their competition season. They performed extraordinarily well at their regional and just recently qualified for IHSA state by being placed in the top six at their Effingham competition. We’ll look forward to what noise they can make in Bloomington at state!
Our bowling team has done “about what was expected” says Coach Carmody. This year is mainly a rebuilding year for three of the four squads. Both boys and girls are hovering around third and fourth place this season. They would like to go as far as possible in the IHSA state series. The boys have already advanced to their sectionals and the girls will be getting ready for theirs in two weeks.
Scholar Bowl, an entirely new team this year, is at a .500 season. Despite all of the youth on the team they are still fighting hard and pulling through. “Now that our players have begun to stop deferring to each other and be more proactive, I see nothing but rising success” says Mr. Levrault. Varsity looks to do some damage in their regional while JV is at a whopping 11-2! Make sure you are watching this team the next few years because it all looks uphill from here.
Our winter guard this year is doing exceptionally well! Their scores keep climbing and climbing from last years. They have a big competition coming up all the way down in Nashville Tennessee! Make sure to wish them good luck this weekend!
This season our wrestling team placed in the top ten at the Quincy invitational. We have two MVC champs: Trenton Finch and Nick Norwood. We also have two wrestlers that got second: JT Music and Luke Steiger. They have regionals this week and the top four advance to sectionals next week. Make sure you come and support!
