January 20-24 our Boys Basketball Team participated in the Nashville Tournament.
The Mascoutah Indians boys basketball team finished the Nashville Tournament with zero wins, of four games. However, our Mascoutah Indian cheerleaders finished with a 1st place in their sideline competition.
Inside of the basketball tournament there was also a cheerleading competition. The competition depended on how loud the cheerleaders were, how tight their cheers were, and the stunting. Our very own cheer squad won 1st place by over 20 points.
The first game was against Breese Central, with a final score of 61-48 Central. The Indians kept up and didn’t let the Cougars lead too far ahead.
The second game was Nashville, the number one team in the state, 63-39 Nashville. Nashville had a major height advantage, starting no one under 6 foot. The Indians just could not catch up to win the game.
The third game on Thursday was against Mater Dei who the Indians already played in the Mater Dei Tournament over Christmas break. The Indians lost 58-44. However, the Indians put up a better fight, trying to redeem themselves after the Nashville game.
The final game on Friday was played against the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, where the Indians lost 58-49. Indians fought hard and took the lead and then fell in the fourth quarter.
Chris Simmons, who was named All-Tournament Team believed the team was not as aggressive as they needed to be throughout all four games. He also believed they allowed the other teams to dictate the games. Overall, Chris says he was disappointed in the outcome of the tournament because he felt our team did not live up to their potential and should have came out with some wins.
Tylor O'Leary who came to two of the four games believed the Indians were not on their game and allowed a lot of error. He thought Chris Simmons deserved his All-Tournament Team award, he believed Chris was a key player throughout the tournament especially in the Teutopolis game played on Friday.
Overall, the Tournament brought home a trophy for our cheerleaders and a learning experience for our basketball team.
