Our College Athletes
Ali Linck
With the school year coming to an end, our seniors have been thinking about their futures. Many of our seniors hope to go on to play sports at the college level. A few of our seniors will be continuing on to make Mascoutah proud.
All 3 of our senior volleyball players have signed to play volleyball in college. Switching from an Indian to a Panther, Liza Gober signed to play at Kentucky Wesleyan University. It is in Owensboro, Kentucky, a city sitting on the Ohio River. Liza feels the biggest adjustment from high school volleyball to college will be adjusting to playing with new girls. She added that adjusting her schedule to having volleyball workouts/practices more than once a day will be hard.
Ali Amici signed at John A. Logan in Carterville, Illinois. John A. Logan is a community college with an enrollment of 7,364.
Lastly, Mikayla Weber signed with Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois. It is home to 11,500 students. Mikayla shares her fear saying “the game pace is so much faster than in high school.”
Batter up! Jeff Hightower signed earlier this school year with St. Josephs College. St. Joseph is a private Catholic college in Indiana. Their enrollment is just a little over a thousand students.
Lastly, we have a senior who will rep our Mascoutah Football team. Manny Fontenot signed last Wednesday, on National signing day, with Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. During a conversation with Manny on his recent signing, he says he is most excited about playing in the college because of the competition level. However, he added his biggest fear about playing is the increase in work load. In college the teams have an “image” to uphold and he is worried about protecting that image and getting his work done.
Mascoutah High School should be very proud of our college athletes. Let’s carry on the Mascoutah fan section legacy and show support new year to our college athletes.
