ACT Testing

Sarah Petters

Gear up juniors and get ready for the ACT. At the moment, the ACT probably seems scary because you think your whole life is riding on this one test. But this is untrue. If you don't do well on the ACT, you can always retake it. Hannah Yohe says " I am not worried at all, mostly because I know if I don't do well I can retake it."

Now you are probably wondering what is the ACT? The ACT is a national college admissions examination. The test is divided into components of English, mathematics, reading, science and writing. It included 215 multiple choice questions that takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Each test is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, and a student's score is the average of the four tests. On the ACT the highest score you can get is a 36. On the test there is no penalty for guessing.

Taking ACT prep classes are a great way to prepare yourself for what you are going to expect during the test. It is important to prep for a long test like this so you aren't unprepared for the real deal. Some pre-testing advice is just don't freak out about it, it is not the end of the world. Make sure to eat something because you don't want to be the kid with the rumbling stomach in class. Also prepare, this might be the best advice to give. You want to go into the test being confident and sure of yourself not doubting your abilities.

Be sure to take the test seriously, because there is also a lot of money out there in college scholarships for each ACT point. It is okay if you don’t do well the first time because you have other opportunities to do better. Good Luck Juniors, and don’t stress.
